Six bands wind around the shell from the outer edge to the centre, and working inward one band at a time is the most satisfying part of this page. Vegetable rows fill the beds on either side of the path. A snail carries its shell for life and grows it larger as it goes, adding to the spiral rather than swapping to a bigger one.
