Three cuts run across the top of the loaf, the marks a baker makes before it goes into the oven so the bread can rise without splitting. They divide the crust into bands that are easy to fill one at a time. The rest of the loaf is a single rounded shape. Brown is the sensible answer, though nobody has ever been harmed by a pink loaf.
